Solar Eclipse Learning
A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon positions between the Earth and the Sun, completely blocking the Sun and causing a shadow on the Earth. The sky may darken, stars may become visible, and some animals and plants may behave as if it were nighttime. During the complete blockage of the sun, observers may have the opportunity to witness the Sun’s outer layer, known as the corona. This is most easily observable during a total solar eclipse and appears as a halo or whispy light around the Sun. Total eclipses take place approximately every 18 months. However, observing ie from a specific point on Earth is a rare occurrence, happening only once every 300-400 years! Therefore it is a rare and remarkable event in the sky.
